Indian currency will soon have a new face. The Reserve Bank of India is going roll out new 5 Rupee coin as a tribute to the freedom fighter and icon Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The coin will have the portrait of Bhagat Singh with the words “Shahid Bhagat Singh Birth Centenary” etched as well as the numbers 1907-2007 to mark the 100 years since his birth.
The use of Shahid should be changed to Shaheed which conveys the pronunciation more clearer. This is something that needs to brought to the attention of RBI.
Incidentally, there was a punjabi song a while back on why Bhagat Singh’s photo is not there on the Indian currency. Teri Photo Kyo Nahi Bhagat Singh Lagti Notan te was the name of the song sung by Nishawn Bhullar with music given by Honey Singh.
