PTC Punjabi Film Awards Winners and Ceremony 2012

The ceremony for PTC Punjabi Film Awards took place recently in Chandigarh.   The initial part involved a red carpet interaction with the stars of Punjabi Cinema of today and of yesteryears as Sahil, the anchor,  took the courtesy of welcoming and introducing the stars.  Some of the celebrities included Dharminder, Dheeraj Kumar, Jograj Singh, Prem Chopra, Satinder Sartaj, Rana Ranbiar, Rama Vij, Deep Dhillon, Jaspinder Narula, Neeru Bajwa, Kulraj Randhawa.  There were also Bollywood actors present like Tushar Kapoor, Ali Zafar, Anupam Kher, … Well this list will keep on going but you get idea.

Diljit Singh started off the show with his ‘Jado Panga pai jawe’ introducing the Bad Man, Gulshan Grover to co-host with himself.  For some reason, there were not a lot of people in the audience apart from the celebrities.

  • Dharminder was welcomed with a lot of respect
  • There was some lack of co-ordination at times
  • Surveen Chawla’s performance
  • Dance performances on Hindi songs or even more weird Tamil songs…the irony of Punjabi Film Awards (yay)
  • Tushar Kapoor and Kulraj Randhawa dance performance to promote their movie, Chaar Din Ki Chandani
  • Icon of Punjab Award to Dharminder
  • Lifetime achievement award to Dheeraj Kumar (Purshotam)
  • Master Saleem singing Mera Peer Jane meri peed and then inviting Yuvraj Hans on stage to sing along with him.  Surprisingly, Yuvraj has a really nice voice and could have a future in singing.  Well may be not a surprise if you consider Hans Raj Hans is his dad.  Master Saleem’s performance was kinda funny. At one time when he wanted people to sing along with him, he told the crowd they must sing as he made them swear on their parents, their singing companies.   Well, he was ‘high’ in spirits throughout the entire performance.
  • Lifetime achievement award to Yograj Singh who got very emotional on the stage and said that he would want to win the Filmfare award before he dies.  Hmmm… not the ideal way to honor the Punjabi Film awards, don’t you think?
  • Ali Zafar and Aditi’s performance for their upcoming movie London Paris New York. (Yay, another movie promo..)  Ali Zafar also added that his grandparents were from Amritsar and even spoke in Punjabi. So will we see Ali Zafar in a Punjabi movie now? Hint Hint
  • Best Film Jury Award to movie Ek Noor (This award almost seemed liked an after thought and even the recipient,Dr.  Ranjit Chandra,  seemed surprised that such an award existed)
  • Diljit Singh dancing to Hindi songs….(kinda strange again) and then finishing off with Jatt Pee Pa  from movie Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya  with Ritesh Deshmuk andGenelia D’souza.
  • Launch/promo  of movie Taur Mitran Di
  • Caught a glimpse of Baljit Singh Deo, the director of Mirza – The Untold Story
  • Gippy Grewal on stage talks about his upcoming movie, Mirza The Untold Story and the promo is shown
  • Neeru Bajwa performance
  • Sukhbir’s energetic performance in front of a dull crowd
  • Neeru Bajwa on winning Best Actress award very rightly saying that maybe next time we’ll dance to Punjabi songs instead of Hindi songs.  Exactly what I was saying early on.  And also she dedicated her award to Manmohan Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Gurdas Maan.  As well as she told everyone to stand to give a moment of tribute to Kuldip Manak.
  • Diljit Singh getting emotional on winning the Best Actor award along with Gippy Grewal
